Scent of Lilacs

Scent of Lilacs, by Ann H. Gabhart. Jocie has many prayers, after all her dad is a preacher and has taught her that God listens to our prayers, so she figures if she keeps praying eventually God will answer her prayers right? So she prays the Puppy prayer, she desperately wants a dog, but with her great aunt living with them and her cantankerous cat she doubted it would ever happen. Only one day the mangily little mutt follows her home and worms his way into their lives and hearts! So if the puppy prayer works, then maybe God is really listening! So she keeps praying, focusing more on her sister prayer! Years earlier her mother up and left one night taking her older sister with him. Jocie longs to see her sister again and find out why her mother didn't want them anymore? And soon her sister shows up on her front steps! In a whirlwind of excitement she finds herself having everything she wanted, her sister home, a dog, and to top it off, it would seem her father is falling for a woman! Only not everything is as it seems and although a teenager, Jocie is hardly equipped to handle the truth of her past.
Oh my goodness!!!! what a heart breaking book! What a roller coaster of emotions! I was drawn into this book and finding myself wanting to try and keep Jocie safe from the truth of her past and the heartache that she was sure to feel! Oh I hugged this book so many times, I'm pretty sure I even dreamed about it!!! Such a great book!!!
